An Intimate, Experiential Opportunity to Deepen your Brainspotting Practice

  • What happens when you have five days to slow down, practice, receive guidance, be a client, be a practitioner, and explore more deeply what happens inside of you when you are sitting with another person?
  • This five-day BIPOC Brainspotting Intensive is an opportunity to move beyond learning about Brainspotting and into a deeper, embodied experience of the work.
  • With only 10 participants, this Intensive offers the opportunity for individualized attention, meaningful connection, and substantial time for practice and reflection.
  • Each participant will have the opportunity to be both client and practitioner throughout the five days. You will experience being guided through your own Brainspotting process, and you will have opportunities to practice with another participant while I sit beside you and personally guide your work.
  • Every experiential session will be followed by in-depth reflection and debrief, creating space to explore not only what happened in the session, but what was happening within you as the practitioner.

Why This Is an Application, Not Simply a Registration

This Intensive is limited to 10 participants, and the composition of the group matters.

Because the learning is highly experiential and relational, I want to be intentional about creating a group in which participants can learn from and with one another. For this reason, completing an application does not automatically guarantee a place in the Intensive.

Before accepting a deposit, I will meet individually with each applicant to learn more about:
  • Your experience with Brainspotting
  • Your goals for participating
  • What you are hoping to deepen in your practice
  • Your experience with experiential learning
  • What you are looking for in an Intensive learning community
  • I will then consider the overall goodness of fit for the group as participants are selected.

My intention is not to create an exclusive environment, but to be thoughtful about the container we are creating together.

If you are invited to participate in the Intensive, please save the date for a pre-Intensive virtual meeting on April 9, from 12–1 p.m. CDT. We’ll use this time to connect and prepare for our time together.

Who is this Intensive for?

This Intensive is for BIPOC Brainspotting practitioners who want to move beyond simply acquiring more techniques and deepen their capacity to be present, attuned, and responsive in their work.

You may be ready for this experience if you:
  • Have completed Brainspotting Phase 1 and Phase 2.
  • Have experience using Brainspotting with clients.
  • Want to deepen your confidence and clinical presence.
  • Want to develop greater trust in your own clinical instincts.
  • Want to become more comfortable with uncertainty.
  • Want to explore the self of the therapist in greater depth.
  • Want to deepen your understanding and practice of attunement.
  • Learn best through experiential practice and reflection.
  • Want individualized guidance in a small-group environment.
  • Are interested in exploring how your own nervous system and internal experience intersect with your clinical work

A BIPOC learning community

This Intensive is intentionally designed for BIPOC Brainspotting practitioners. There is something powerful about learning in a space where we can bring our lived experiences, identities, cultural contexts, and perspectives into the room without having to continually explain or translate ourselves.

At the same time, this is not an assumption that BIPOC practitioners share one experience. We don’t.

The intention is to create a space where our differences and similarities can both be present, and where we can deepen our practice within a community of other BIPOC practitioners.

Why only 10 participants?

All Brainspotting Intensives are limited to 10 participants.
  • The small group allows me to be actively involved in your learning—to sit beside you while you practice, observe your process, offer guidance, and engage with you in meaningful reflection afterward.
  • With this format, you are not simply one person in a large classroom.
  • There is room for you to be seen.
  • There is room to practice.
  • There is room to be uncertain.
  • There is room to ask questions.
  • There is room to experience your own process.
  • And there is room to slow down enough to notice what happens when you trust yourself and your client more deeply.

Five days of immersive learning

Each day will include two experiential Brainspotting sessions, with participants moving between the roles of client and practitioner throughout the Intensive.
Each session will be followed by time for reflection and in-depth debrief.

You will have opportunities to:
  • Experience Brainspotting as a client.
  • Practice Brainspotting as a practitioner.
  • Receive individualized guidance.
  • Witness the work of other BIPOC practitioners.
  • Reflect on your own internal experience.
  • Explore your clinical instincts and uncertainty.
  • Integrate what you are learning into your practice.
  • This is learning that happens not only through information, but through experience, relationship, observation, reflection, and repetition.

Experience attunement from the client's chair

One of the most powerful aspects of this Intensive is the opportunity to be the client.

There is a difference between learning about attunement and experiencing it. When you are the client, you will have the opportunity to notice what it feels like to have another practitioner stay with you, follow your process, tolerate uncertainty, and remain deeply present. Then you will have the opportunity to bring that experience back to your own work.

When you are the practitioner, I will sit beside you and provide individualized guidance as you work.

Together, we will explore not only what you are doing, but how you are being while you do it.

The Self of the Brainspotting Practitioner

Brainspotting is not only about where we look or which frame we use.
  • It is also about how we are with another person.
  • Our presence matters.
  • Our attunement matters.
  • Our ability to stay curious matters.
  • Our capacity to tolerate uncertainty matters.
  • Our own nervous system matters.
  • Throughout the Intensive, we will pay attention to the practitioner as an essential part of the therapeutic process.

Rather than simply asking:
“Did I do this correctly?”
we can become curious about:
  • What am I noticing in myself?
  • What happens when I trust my client and the process?
  • What happens when I become uncertain?
  • Am I staying in the Tail of the Comet or trying to lead?
  • What is my body telling me?
  • What happens when I slow down?
  • What might my client be experiencing from me in this moment?
  • How does my own presence influence the space we are creating together?

Come ready to learn—and to be changed by the experience

This Intensive is an invitation to deepen your Brainspotting practice by deepening your relationship with yourself as a practitioner.

You don’t need to arrive knowing everything.

You don’t need to perform expertise.

You simply need to be willing to be curious, to practice, to experience, to reflect, and to explore.

I look forward to sharing these five days with you.

Brainspotting Certification

This Intensive is offered by an Approved Brainspotting Trainer and may fulfill the Intensive/consultation component of the Brainspotting certification process for participants who are pursuing certification, provided all other certification requirements in process and soon to be met.

If you are pursuing certification as a result of this Intensive, you will also need to complete a follow-up meeting with the trainer after the Intensive.

Participants are responsible for ensuring that they meet all current Brainspotting certification requirements.

Full participation is expected. Your participation affects the experience of everyone in the group and your contributions to a learning environment that is respectful, curious, collaborative, and supportive are the vital to the overall experience of the Intensive. Continuing Education Credits
While BIPOC-only trainings provide a vital and affirming space for healing and professional growth, Continuing Education (CE) credits are not awarded for these trainings. We encourage participants to appeal directly to their licensing board to inquire whether CEs may be granted on an individual basis. Participants who complete all aspects of the Intensive will receive a completion certificate.
